Buying healthy in bulk

I love Costco. I know I really shouldn’t. With its overflowing shelves of processed, factory farmed foods that could induce a heart attack from just looking at them, it really should compel me to run screaming in the other direction. But I can’t help it. I love Costco.

These days, one of the things I love the most is the constantly growing inventory of healthy, all-natural and organic products they have to offer. Sure, you may have to dig through mega-boxes of Fruit Rollups and Totino’s Pizza Rolls to find them, but they’re there, and many are major bargains compared to the prices you’d pay at the grocery store.

Just last weekend I took a spin around the store to pick up some of my favorite Costco buys and found several other items I ended up taking home or plan to pick up on my next trip. Things like MaraNatha Almond Butter, which costs a small fortune at the grocery store, for a reasonable $5.99 for a large jar. Cereal options like Kirkland Signature by Nature’s Path Ancient Grains Granola, which I’ve heard is a bit on the sweet side, but I’m still going to try since Nature’s Path products are practically an obsession for me. And slightly-better-for-you sweeteners like agave, which I snagged for about half the price I’d pay for the same quantity at the grocery store.

Of course, in a two-person household, army-sized quantities of even the healthiest food don’t exactly make sense so we have to by-pass several things. Still, it’s a great spot to snag some good deals on some really great quality food.

What’s your favorite all-natural/organic find at Costco?

  1. Just last week I was able to pick up a 2 pack of Dave's Killer Bread. It's pricey (especially out here in Hawaii) but I froze one loaf for later. I can't find that bread anywhere else out here so I was thrilled to see it at good ol' Costco.

    1. Oh that's a good one! We don't have Dave's Killer Bread out here in Tennessee, but my mom gets it at Costco back home in Washington state and absolutely loves it.

  2. Organic beef is one of my favs. Also, as a juicer, the organic carrots are a steal.
